The Important Stuff

Two things that I noticed on the internet tube recently.

First, Jimmy Fallon's daughter lost her tooth! Can anything be more important than that? Luckily, she was able to let everyone know about this important event on the TV machine. And as we all know, the Tooth Fairy is considered an essential worker. So no worries there.

Second, it was Zach Braff's birthday and I missed it, but it's not like he is the captain of a starship or anything like that. I can't remember everyone's birthday. But now that I have mentioned it, well, Happy Birthday Zach.

And there was a great photo to celebrate his birthday. It had everything a happy photo should have. There was Zach and his dog, both taking a nap. (Dogs are better at this than humans. It's kind of their thing.) A nice gentle rain is falling in the background on a variety of trees including one bonsai tree. Beautiful pale yellow daylilies grace the front left side of the photo. Soft blue cushions on the couch just melt your cares away.

Two things. So happy. So calm.

Hang in there everyone.

It's the Most Fun You Can Possibly Have .... Besides This

As we watched last week come to an end, Stephen was frosting on Wedding Cake on Thursday's show. It was not the best Wedding Cake I have ever seen. In fact, he was kind of sloppy about slopping the frosting on. But I am sure anyone would have been thrilled to have a cake baked and frosted and decorated by him at their wedding. From what he said, I expect he will be making more cakes. It seems like destiny and I say, "Good Job Stephen and Congratulations to the Happy Couple."

Stephen celebrated Black History Month by basically admitting he was not well prepared. He had a cartoon about Laser Klan. I'm still waiting for another Tek Jansen episode, so hopefully we will see that soon. Maybe Tek Jansen has moved on to other acting pursuits or even directing or producing movies. Maybe he could just do a cameo appearance in something.

Jeff Goldblum was Stephen's guest and he was actually interviewed this time. Of course, most people will remember him from "Tenspeed and Brown Shoe." Currently he is starring in the Wes Anderson movie, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," which, judging by the photo of it at that link, looks like an elegant hotel that would make for a relaxing few days away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Stephen was able to push Jeff Goldblum to admit that he is a liberal, you know, on the side of the more progressive thinkers. Luckily, Stephen had Jimmy edit that part out so we didn't see that faux pas. Stephen saw the movie and said he cried. But he also said it was hilarious. If you were lucky enough to be in that movie, I guess you were able to have fantastic dinners each night. Stephen might be willing to take a bit part in a gig like that, just for the fun and food.

By the way, you might want to consider watching "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Friday night of this week. No special reason, just an idea.

Welcome to Tonight

The Olympics are still going strong and I am spending most of my waking time watching as much as I can. So, yes very short posts. If only I could be in Sochi to watch it live...

The most important thing that happened on Tuesday's show was that we got to see Stephen with a short cameo appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." (Friend of the show.) Stephen showered Jimmy Fallon with much praise and welcomed him to the world of nighttime news and entertainment television. Jimmy was speechless.

In another of the episodes where Stephen has a mini-guest and a real guest, we got to meet Janet Mock who talked about her book, "Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More,"

We also got to meet Brian Greene, a scientist, so you know he's probably as smart as Stephen. He and Stephen talked about World Science U. It's even better than vinegar and baking soda. Go look at it.

Don't Tell Mom

It's Colbchella '013 (or StePhest Colbchella for purists) time! That means a big sponsor and great, great music. Daft Punk was supposedly the guest, (back on August 6, yes, I'm behind on posts, you all know that already) but that whole Daft Punk deal fell through because of MTV and the VMAs. It's all very confusing and sad, and what's worse, Stephen already cashed the check from Hyundai. I don't know how that whole deal played out. Stephen is still doing the show, so probably something that was agreeable to both sides was worked out which benefits Hyundai, Stephen, and of course all of us - his loyal fans- because we still get to watch him every night on the TV machine. Well, not every night, just Monday through Thursday and not every week because he takes vacations all the time. Oops. Sidetracked. Sorry.

So. Not to be disappointed, we got to see Stephen dance and dance and dance. Along with nearly everyone else in the entertainment world. That's great. It shows that news journalists and musicians and entertainers can come together for meaningful dialogue and dance. If you did not see it last week and if you haven't watched it yet somewhere on the internet, or on any one of a number of other news shows, of course you can see it over at Colbert Nation. You can also see all these people:

Hugh Laurie
The Rockettes
Jeff Bridges
Jimmy Fallon
Jon Stewart
Charlie Rose
Anna Gunn
Aaron Paul
Vince Gilligan
Bryan Cranston
Matt Damon
Henry Kissinger
Tek Jansen
Mel B
Nick Cannon
Howie Mandel
Heidi Klum
Howard Stern

Go here to see one of Stephen's best performances yet.

Finally, in what has to be the most fortunate event in TV history, Robin Thicke just happened to be in the audience for this show of all shows and agreed to sing for Stephen, thus saving Stephen's career. Stephen has officially dubbed "Blurred Lines" as the song of the summer. He does have that authority, so there you have it, the Song of the Summer.

Where's the BFF?

Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert were Best Friends Forever. Then they were Eternal Enemies for six months.

Shouldn't they be Best Friends Forever by now?

I'm just sayin'.

The Trojan Pint

As you may remember, Stephen sent a Valentine's card to Jimmy. "I miss us," is what he told Jimmy. They were Best Friends Forever for six months, but now they are Eternal Enemies for six months, up until March 3. But having this feud over ice cream is just wrong. You can find a link at Colbert Nation or just go here to Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to see what happens when Jimmy reads the Valentine he received from Stephen.

Also, it looks like repeats for tonight. Earlier in the week, it seemed like it would be new guests for the rest of the week, but I'm not sure. Is it possible that Stephen got sick, that he caught some sort of Valentine's Flu? Either that or perhaps he is solving some world crisis somewhere.

Stay tuned!

Do Not Do It

After talking basketball and power saws, Stephen turned his attention to Valentine's Day or as he calls it:

Stephen Colbert's "Americone Dream Free from 5pm to 8pm at Participating Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shops Nationwide" Day. Oh, I hope I got the name of that right.

Apology: I did not see Ben and Jerry on The Colbert Report tonight. Perhaps Dylan Rattigan meant Stephen would talk about ice cream and that Ben and Jerry would not actually be on the show. So, if you were expecting to see Ben and Jerry, I do apologize. Maybe tomorrow night, but no more promises.

Anyway, Stephen sent Jimmy Fallon, his Eternal Enemy for Six Months, a really sweet Valentine's Day card. "My dearest Jimmiest," and it went on and on from there. Stephen sent it via Late Night Mail system which is a cute white bunny wearing a mail bag. One can only wonder what will happen when Jimmy gets the card. They are supposed to be Eternal Enemies until March 3rd.

Stephen's guest tonight was environmentalist Bill McKibben. He has led the effort to kill the Keystone Pipeline. He talked about oil and how profit in one of the things that keeps us drilling for more oil and using it when we could be using cleaner fuels. Stephen reminded him that the planet still turns. The interview was short, so you can go to Bill McKibben's website for more information and see photos from the enormous 350 EARTH project, or go to 350.org and be astounded by the photo of Stephen Colbert with the caption: Colbert Viewers: Go Straight to the Petition!

And yet Stephen told us very sternly, "Do Not Do It!" But I kind of think he really does want us to do it or why would his photo, his smiling photo, be right there on the website?

This is important. Go to 350.org and click on the photo of Stephen and sign the petition. What's at stake? Drinking water for millions of Americans across the Midwest. And more, much more.

GOP, BFF, and Credible Messenger

First off, the Republican primaries are moving right along. Stephen was prepared to call the Florida election and he called it for Mitt Romney. It helped a lot that all the votes were in and counted. Newt Gingrich came in second, but it was not a close second, so Mitt did really well. But there does seem to be a little bit of conflict or animosity. Some would even dare to call it negativity or nastiness. Mitt Romney has an answer to all of that. While some say this will hurt the party, he says that "a competitive primary does not divide us, it prepares us."

As a fellow conservative, Stephen is ready to help. He set up a new Twitter account, #preparethem, and sent these on his show even as we watched.

"Newt's only hope for your vote is if you've been in a coma for 20 years and if you have he probably divorced you. newt2012"

"Mitt Romney is not a vulture capitalist. Vultures only eat things that are dead. romney2012"

Everyone should help prepare these two candidates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sadly, Jimmy Fallon's Late Night Snack Ice Cream seems to be selling better than Stephen's Americone Dream. This is very disturbing to Stephen, partly because the two of them used to be Best Friends Forever (for 6 months). Luckily, now Stephen's will be sold in a "Superpack". Not only that, but it is collectable. You know this because, 1) Stephen said so and 2) it says right on the pack "2012 Collectable Election Year Package." Stephen suggests that we buy this valuable container. Don't open it because then it would not retain its collectable value. Put it in your safe deposit box along with your most valuable papers and documents.
Valentines Special - Stephen did say that there will be free Americone Dream at participating Ben & Jerry's. I don't have details, but if you live close to a Scoop Shop, check it out on February 14 and see if you are one of the lucky ice cream lovers.
Interesting tidbit. If you go to Ben & Jerry's Fun page at their website, you can play the game To The Moon. I don't think this has anything with Newt's plan to go To The Moon, but it would help prepare all of us for eventually going into space to colonize the Moon.
Be sure to vote for your favorite name for the Moon state in the right hand column at the top of the page.
Stephen's guest tonight was Ameena Matthews. She is a CeaseFire Violence Interrupter working to end gang violence. She is featured in the documentary, "The Interrupters" to be shown on Frontline on pbs on February 14 at 9 p.m. (check local listings).
It's always interesting to see who will be the guest each night. Sometimes it is someone who is a performer, such as Björk last night. Sometimes it is a politician. Sometimes a journalist. But always interesting. Occasionally funny even. Tonight, Stephen was in finer form that usual. He had many great questions, and (dare I say it? sure why not...) not so many interruptions (ironic) and not so many one-liners as usual. We really did get to hear quite a bit of what Ameena Matthews had to say.
He did show a short video clip of her talking to a group of young men, all of whom were listening intently. "Why are those young men listening to you?" was Stephen's question.
"Because I'm considered a credible messenger." She said that she is not lecturing to them, she is having a conversation. She is finely tuned in to what is happening. She considers violence a disease.
The fact that she could hold Stephen's attention, and that he kept asking questions and listening to her answers, speaks to her talent and skill to use her voice in a very powerful way.
I Wish It Was Christmas Today
Stephen is off until next year, so I will fill in with whatever comes to mind. Last night on Saturday Night Live, the host was Jimmy Fallon. That' right, Stephen's sometime Best Friend for Six Months and now Eternal Enemy for Six Months. Most likely Stephen was home watching SNL because that friendship tie never ends even after six months. Lots of familiar faces were also on the show - Rachel Dratch, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Horatio Sanz, Tracy Morgan and Chris Kattan. With those last three being on, you can probably guess what musical treat we all enjoyed -- that all time favorite, "I Wish It Was Christmas Today." If you didn't get to watch SNL last night, enjoy it here from a few years ago when the guys were all younger.
Frank to the Rescue
Poor Michele Bachmann. Everyone picks on her. She can't get a break anywhere. Oh, woe is her. Woe is her.
ABC
There was this trouble a while ago with ABC. "We didn't have time for any questions."
CBS
Then this. "He is a piece of ____ . He is a fraud and he should be fired."
NBC
And most recently this. "... likely they could have fired the drummer, "
There are obviously some people who are not with the program, so to speak. Everyone is supposed to be supporting Michele Bachmann. No one is supposed to say anything negative. Is it because she is a woman? It's time we let women out of the kitchen. No longer should they be content with the jobs of yesteryear: nurse, teacher and waitress.
OOPS! She just made herself into a waitress. Yikes. Granted she was able to take up nearly a minute of time with the focus all on her.
Dr. Frank Luntz, friend of the show, came through with the perfect words to move the debate along. After all, he is somewhat of a wordsmith. He made Michele Bachmann think that she was going to speak first and that got her to sit down right away. He is so smart. No wonder Stephen has him on the show so often.
A Bear Shifts in the Woods
Yes, tonight there were lots of people helping out in front of the camera. Herman Cain was featured at least twice, but only for a second teach time. Jeffrey Toobin was on to help Stephen understand the workings of the Supreme Court. It's that time of the year when they are in session again. One of the cases they will be deciding is the so-called ObamaCare. Jeffrey Toobin predicts it will be either 4-5 or 5-4 vote.
And yes he had guest Dr. Jerome Groopman, Professor at Harvard Medical School. He has written the book, "Your Medical Mind." Professor Groopman was there to talk about Medicine. "Medicine is not "black and white" he said. As an example he talked about mammograms. Stephen was speechless for a while, but then he explained, saying he got caught once.
At what age should a person begin having mammograms?Ask four different medical experts and you will get four different answers. People need to be more involved in making their own medical decisions. And Dr. Groopman did say that he thinks there should be universal coverage in this country.
But the most important thing Stephen talked about tonight, and the most disturbing thing, was bears. That's right. Bears! You can't turn on the TV without hearing news story after news story about bears. From bears drinking vodka in the Ukraine to bears in people's back yards raiding the bird feeders, to bears climbing in cars and driving them until they crash, bears are all around us.
However, there is a sinister turn of events. Remember the Terminator? He would look through the phone book to find and hunt down everyone with the same name. Well, it turns out that the bear in the back yard in Connecticut was at the home of Rich Colbert. It doesn't take very long going through the alphabet to get from Rich to Stephen.
So, if a bear asks you, (insert photo of Jimmy Fallon here) this is Stephen Colbert!
King of Magic
Pop Quiz for you. Which one of the following people did not appear on the show tonight?
A) Representative Louie Gohmert
B) Jimmy Fallon
C) Anderson Cooper
D) David Copperfield
If you guessed Rush Limbaugh, you didn't even look at the choices. Sheesh.
The answer is A) Representative Louis Gohmert. Although Stephen did talk about Louie Gohmert, he was not technically on the show. If the name seems familiar but you can't remember why, go back and read about him at Manatee of the Airwaves.
But as for who really showed up tonight... well, Stephen's BFF, I mean, Best Friend for Six Months, Jimmy Fallon was there to chat about the good times in the last six months. And then the truth hit both of them. Six months is up. They are no longer Best Friends. Nothing left for them but to be --- gasp --- Eternal Enemies for Six Months. However it's not as bad as it seems. Both of these superstars are up for an Emmy in the same category and yet Jimmy Fallon is man enough to say that he hopes Stephen wins and Stephen is man enough to say "Yeah."
Next, and I totally did not see this coming, Anderson Cooper was there on the show. Not on the show, but in the audience that was on the show. Okay, it was just a short walk-on bit where he didn't actually walk on, but he was there and he did talk and he didn't laugh so that almost qualifies as being a guest.
And then, almost as if by magic, David Copperfield dazzled us with his ability to sit and talk with Stephen. We can all agree that Stephen is remarkable, talented, with has many awards. But even Stephen acknowledged that David Copperfield is amazing and remarkable and impressive. And Stephen is not the only one who thinks so. Check out Wikipedia about David Copperfield. And look at this latest news to see who is the first-ever King of Magic.
It was a typical interview for Stephen and David Copperfield. And that made me extremely happy. I was worried that Copperfield would make Stephen disappear and not bring him back. It would have made future episodes of The Colbert Report very boring. Anyway, David Copperfield wrote the foreword for the book, "Brainworks the Mind-Bending Science of How You See, What You Think and Who You Are," written by Michael S. Sweeney and printed by National Geographic. It sounds intriguing and I think I might go out and buy it.
If magic is of interest to you, go to Colbert Nation and watch tonight's show online if you did not see it on the TV machine. You can see Stephen make a coin disappear. Yes, he makes an actual coin actually disappear!
Then, in what can only be described as a mix of magic, mind control and psychic abilities, Stephen predicted what card I would be thinking of. Hint: It's the Ace of Hearts.
News of the World
There's more news tonight than usual. First of all, Karma Chameleon is coming to California! Californians are being warned to prepare for the worst, if you can believe that.The highways will be even more crowded than usual. People are being told to stock up on food so that they won't have to go out for groceries. And all of this is because Highway 405 is being shut down for a few hours, well 53 hours, for repair. Nearly all of the news outlets are reporting on this so called Karma Chameleon, so it must be huge.
But nothing can compare to, and nothing can overshadow the biggest story in today's News of the World. Stephen was nominated for more Emmys. How many awards can one man win for heaven's sake??? There is a lot of competition with many other great and popular shows also being nominated. Luckily, not Barry Manilow this year.You can find the entire Nominees List: Complete Official 2011 Primetime Emmy Nominations by going to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and clicking on the List there.
The categories that Stephen is nominated in are:
** Outstanding Directing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series
** Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series
** Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series
I wonder if Best Friend for Six Months, Jimmy Fallon, will be voting for Stephen. They are best friends, so I kind of think Jimmy should support Stephen's quest for more Emmys.
Last bit of news tonight for the News of the World was Stephen's guest. Jose Vargas is a Pulitzer award winning journalist and an undocumented immigrant. His mother sent him from the Philippines to the United States when he was 12 years old to live with relatives. It wasn't until he was 16 years old and applying for a driver's license that he found out there was a bit of a problem. The woman behind the counter leaned over and whispered that his Green Card was fake and he should not come back. Yikes. What's a kid to do?
Anyway, there is a website that you can go to and learn more about Jose Vargas and other people in similar predicaments. It's called Define American and you can watch a short video there about Jose's story.
What would you do?
The Last Mountain
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was the guest tonight on The Colbert Report.
The Last Mountain, a documentary that includes interviews with Kennedy, opens in selected theaters this Friday. If you live in one of those cities, you should go to the movie. Not every one will have the chance to see it, only if you live in or near those cities. We did get to see a short clip of the movie and there are lots of explosions, so if that appeals to you, go see the movie. But what it mostly is about is the coal industry in West Virginia. A state made up of mountains and valleys is being quickly turned in to a state of mountains blasted and then scraped into the valleys, all in the name of coal.
In other news tonight, Stephen's facial hair is gone. Also, I think Stephen is redecorating because he was talking about rugs and curtains. And the age old problem of Stephen winning (or not) an Emmy was again discussed briefly. And that meant Stephen felt compelled to write a Thank-you note to his BFF for six months - Jimmy Fallon.
Dr. Brainio
A big treat Saturday when I watched Saturday Night Live was the popular cartoon series "The Ambiguously Gay Duo." It seems like it has been quite a long time since there was an episode on, so it was nice to finally catch up on what's happening. All the usual characters were on and then, they went from being animated to being actual living human beings, except for the one who looked like a lizard and except for the snake.
And who do you think was playing the part of Dr. Brainio? Why would I even ask if it wasn't, you guessed it, Stephen Colbert! He was marvelous, as is to be expected. This should qualify him for a Grammy nomination. I'm not sure what category it would be in, but someone will figure that part out.
Also taking part as real live beings were Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon, Steve Carell, Ed Helms, and Fred Armisen.
It makes sense that someone as intelligent as Stephen Colbert would play the part of Dr. Brainio.
What Does He Think I Am - - - Made of Music?
Stephen Colbert, in talking about Jimmy Fallon's promise to sing "Friday" on last Friday on Fallon's show, asked his "The Colbert Report" listeners, "What does he think I am - - - made of music?"
Well, in a word, YES.
Stephen often sings with his musical guests on the show. And I know he sings in the shower. (I don't actually know that. I made it up. But it is possible that he does sing in the shower since many people do sing in the shower.)
He's a fantastic singer.
And now I can tell everyone that there are plans in the making for Stephen to make a CD with other talented artists and donate the money to charities chosen by each singer.
No, wait, that's wrong. I think that last paragraph is a figment of my imagination. Curses! I always have a fuzzy brain on Mondays. There are no plans in the making for Stephen to make a CD. (Tears roll down my cheeks and drip into my cup of coffee.)
And yet, what a wonderful idea. Just think of the money that could be raised by the loyal and generous and intelligent and good-looking folks over at the Colbert Nation! Each artist would pick a favorite charity and the profits from that song, or a percentage from the whole album, could go to that charity. It would provide funding plus good publicity for the charities.
Who knows? Maybe, just maybe, someday in the future this could happen. And then I could once again try to claim that I can read Stephen Colbert's mind. oooohhhhhhh!
In the meantime, if you haven't seen Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon and the Roots and Taylor Hicks and the Knicks City Dancers in the wonderful performance of "Friday" you can check it out here on hulu.
There's a short commercial and then you can spend 5 minutes and 2 seconds for the best experience of your life. Stephen Colbert sings "Friday."
Saturday, April 2, 2011
Friday Friday
So, here it is Saturday and I'm writing about Friday. And with good reason. As promised, Stephen Colbert made a grand appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to sing "Friday". It was magnificent. Jimmy Fallon joined in with his usual exuberance. Then magically, Taylor Hicks appeared, bursting onto the stage. Wow, then came the Knicks City Dancers. The Roots were in grand form as always. The audience added as much enthusiasm as you typically see on The Colbert Report.
It was, as Jimmy said, the moment we've been waiting for. Stephen Colbert was a man of Jimmy's word.
With generous donations of $1, $5, even $8, they raised over $86,000 for Donors Choose.
Wonderful!
Now, my lingering question. When will Stephen put out a CD of songs? Yes there was the Christmas stuff, but something with year-long appeal. Stephen is a great, no, greatest singer and the world deserves to hear his golden tones.
I Joined Colbert PAC
Stephen was so convincing that I just had to go to COLBERTPAC.com and join.
Now I can claim to be one of a group of millions who are
"Making a better tomorrow, tomorrow."
My whole life has changed since joining. I feel older. I know I'm getting smarter. Every time I see Michele Bachmann or Tim Pawlenty or Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee, I can smile because I know that I am in the PAC that is better than all those PACs put together.
But enough about me. On to the important stuff. Stephen found out last night that you can use PAC money to pay for jet travel. And that you need to comply with rules and fill out forms and things of that nature, but no one has gone to jail for making boo boos about PAC stuff. So, that sounds intriguing.
I mentioned other people who have PACs and I did not know, but huckpac means "out after Iowa" in the Klingon language. Stephen talked about Tim Pawlenty and his thunderous handshake last night. Well, you can do amazing things with audio-visual equipment nowadays. oops. I guess it's called technology now, not AV. You might remember that Stephen has aired the Pawlenty PAC ad and then determined that Pawlenty is running for the Brawny man. You probably haven't seen, but Pawlenty, who is from Minnesota, has all of a sudden developed a deep south accent when he is speaking in states south of Minnesota.
But moving on. I just think someone needs to talk about this Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert BFF situation. (That's Best Friends Forever, if you don't know.) Both of them have talked about being BFFs for 6 months. That's not exactly forever!!!
Regardless of that problem though, go to DonorsChoose.org/Fallon-Colbert-Project anyway and donate. It helps kids, so that's good.
And then hopefully soon we can get past both of them having to say, "I never said that."
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
I Never Said That
Apparently I can not read Stephen's mind. Hypnotizing didn't seem to work either. I didn't see that coming! I will have to work harder at these skills and try again in the future.
Moving on.
I'm sure you all remember when Stephen told us that Jimmy Fallon will match $26,000 of his own money to benefit Donors Choose.
However, on Jimmy Fallon's show last night, Jimmy said, "I never said that."
And this would be what we call a conundrum. The only possible solution was for Stephen to go on Jimmy's show. And he did. He did not stay long and it wasn't a pretty sight.
After Stephen quickly exited the show, Jimmy admitted the only way to come to a reasonable solution was for everyone to help by sending money by Friday. If enough money comes in, Jimmy promised, Promised!!!, that Stephen will come on the Jimmy Fallon Show and sing Rebecca Black's song - "Friday" - with Roots.
Cut back to Stephen Colbert where he is surprised by this singing engagement and said, "This comes as a surprise to me!" or something very similar.
For two people who are supposedly BFFs for six months, the friendship does not seem that strong. I'm just saying.
What everyone needs to do, according to Jimmy Fallon, is to go to
donorschoose.org/fallon-colbert-project and donate.
Or not as Stephen would say. You can also go to colbertnation for more information.
It's Happening, It's Happening, It Happened
Stephen's portrait was auctioned off and fetched a whopping $26,000. That's a little bit short of the $5,000,000 he was hoping for, but still that's a pretty good price. And, according to Stephen, friend of the show Jimmy Fallon will match that $26,000 with $26,000 of his own money! And all of that will benefit Donors Choose.
If you did not see last night's show, you can go to Colbert Nation to see the auction. You really should watch the auction. You can also watch the most unique cook I have seen so far, Nathan Myhrvold, and his Modernist Cuisine.
And again Stephen reminds us to text REDCROSS to 90999 or go to Red Cross on the internet to help out Japan after the earthquake and tsunami.
