First of all, Boston. Stephen changed his usual start of the show to talk words of encouragement and support to the wonderful people of Boston and in Boston for the Marathon. No doubt there will be ways that we can help in the coming weeks. Be generous but also be cautious. When donating money, be sure you are donating to a legitimate organization. If someone comes to your door or approaches you on the street asking for money to help the victims, you should probably be a little wary.
Also a way you can help is to donate blood. Not because it is going to be shipped to Boston, but because it is a good habit to get into. The supply of blood to be used for accident victims, cancer patients, etc. always is low in the summer. So find out how to donate in your community and make an appointment to do so this summer. It doesn't hurt that much, not much more than a mosquito bite. The technicians and volunteers are super nice. And it helps people.
Stephen is worried about the coming cicada invasion. Even more worrisome to him though is that the last invasion was 17 years ago and he has aged a lot since then. Poor Stephen. (Hey, you still look just fine to me.)
Stephen is always concerned about good health practices. Last night he emphasized the importance of a good breakfast each morning.
The NRCC is on top of the best website designs. Cute comes to mind but also personal responsibility. For example, shouldn't that cat show some initiative? Okay, that was a photo of a cat with the heading, "I Can Haz Erned Cheezburger?" Anyway, the website is cute while also being informative. You can find 13 Animals that are really bummed on ObamaCare's Third Birthday,
So many TV shows have cooking segments. I wish Stephen would have a cooking segment each night, but he doesn't. Perhaps after reading this post (I'm sure he reads this every day) he will get on the bandwagon and share some wonderful family recipes with us. But what he could do is share with us some wonderful inventions and recipes for cooking eggs. Vertical Cooking Technology is going to be the wave of the future. Personally I have been so bored with my current Horizontal Cooking Technology. It's been that way since the first cave woman cooked for her man. I assume that, I'm not that old, so not entirely sure. Anyway, this new technology makes for an easy to eat shape. However, it could be easier. Stephen demonstrated. It looks easy and delicious.
I tried to write a poem for the next section, but I'm just not much of a poemist, so I'll just write as usual. Caroline Kennedy was the guest last night. Her most recent book is "Poems to Learn by Heart." It was great because Stephen and Caroline Kennedy had a poem-off. I'm not sure who won because they both kept spouting off poetry lines. Obviously they both have memorized quite a bit of this wonderful branch of literature.

Canceled Again
Nation, tonight's episode of The Colbert Report is canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. If you reserved tickets for tonight, please check your email for further details.
Again, that is what is over at ColbertNation.com about Tonight's Taping. Tonight's rerun will therefore be with Mitch Daniels. He wrote a book that reminds Stephen of an excellent book written by someone else. Read my post here about Mitch Daniels and find out who wrote that excellent other book. Hint: The other book is about America and Greatness.
But if you are at a loss of what to do if you don't want to watch a rerun of The Colbert Report, here's a list of suggestions.
1.First of all, go over to RedCross.org and donate some money to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
2. Read all my posts at The Colbert Bump, starting with the first one.
3. Donate blood. "Hurricane Sandy has forced the cancellation of approximately 300 American Red Cross blood drives in 14 states along the East Coast, resulting in a shortfall of nearly 9,000 units of blood and platelets thus far." Go to the American Red Cross Website to find out how you can become a blood donor. You'll get a free cookie! There's great information about first-time donors, eligibility requirements, and even a Search for blood drives by Zip Code.
4. Go over to bing and look at cute Arctic fox cub.
5. Get out your To Do List and do some of the jobs on it.
6. Read books by Stephen Colbert:
Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen
I Am America (And So Can You)
I Am a Pole (And So Can You)
America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't
7. Write an actual letter on paper to someone you haven't seen in a while, put it in an actual envelope with correct address on it, put actual postage stamp on it, and mail it.
8. Start a new hobby. Might I suggest Juggling!!! Watch the video and you will be able to juggle in no time at all. Blue shows how it's done.
9. Take the dog for a walk. Good exercise for you and a real treat for the dog.
10. Find out about the local elections in your area. Yes we have a presidential election, but there are also state, county, city, school elections on the ballot as well as questions, amendments, and other important stuff. Election day is Tuesday, November 6. Go to your polling place and vote on Tuesday. I'm sure Stephen will talk about the elections in the coming days.
Of course, you can always just watch The Colbert Report tonight as usual. Even if you have seen it before, it is fascinating, informative and at times even humorous.

Donate Blood
I donated blood today. Once every eight weeks I'm eligible to donate, so I head on down and fill out the questionnaire, get my blood pressure and hemoglobin checked and roll up my sleeve. After a tiny stick of the needle, I just sit there while they take a pint of my blood. Then I go to the lounge and help myself to some juice or pop, coffee or tea plus a pretty tasty cookie. All in all it takes about an hour and I have helped save someone's life.
It got me to thinking. Does Stephen Colbert donate blood? Is he a regular blood donor? I don't know but I think he should step up to the plate and offer his arm. For one thing, can you imagine what it would do for some sick or injured person to have some of Stephen's blood running through his or her veins? OMG! It would make that person so healthy. I know Stephen regularly advertises, promotes and apparently sells healthful solutions and products. A pint of his blood would be the best thing he could provide.
And if it was known that he donates his blood, everyone could pretend that they were the lucky individual who was the recipient of his blood. (Donors are anonymous as far as the records are concerned. You won't know whose blood you received.)
Then imagine if he encouraged the people of the Colbert Nation to become blood donors. Blood donation centers wouldn't know what happened. Their donor list would increase over night. So, Stephen, if you're listening, become a blood donor or if you are one, tell your people to follow your example. And Colbert Nation readers, call your local Red Cross or hospital and find out how you can become a donor.
Maybe Stephen could challenge Jon Stewart to also donate. Perhaps they could see who could get the most staff and crew members to donate. He could even donate on the air to show how easy it is. Donating blood would be the ultimate Colbert Bump.
