Let's See Them Laugh at This

Still catching up on previous episodes from when I was so sick. So, on with the show. Stephen had a fascinating study of the current status of romantic relationships, paying special attention to the great state of Wisconsin. We also got an update on President Obama's Cabinet and how that ties in with that classic Western film, "Blazing Saddles." Why or why did "Blazing Saddles" not get at least one Academy Award?

Luckily for us, the Tip Wag Fans are in the house and we learned about Happy Fork. Use your imagination. You're wrong. Here's the scoop. We also learned about the favorite cereals of the NBA.

Moving quickly along, Ben or Benjamin Gibbard was the guest. It was a very subdued and somewhat short interview. Ben did not have a lot to say. He's from Seattle, so he was dressed formally in jeans and a shirt. Stephen did not have many questions. Sometimes the stars and planets just seem to line up that way. Think of how many times Stephen has a very talkative and even controversial guest  and Stephen has hundreds of questions and comments. Too bad it couldn't work out better and have just one or the other, guest or Stephen, have lots to say. I guess it's true what they say, feast or famine.

Anyway, we did get to hear a song from Ben and there was a special surprise guest who also sang with. Okay, it was Aimee Mann. It was a great performance, nice song - "Bigger Then/Than Love" from the album "Former Lives." I would mention, and by mentioning, I am in no way complaining, but again I would just say that I am mentioning this. I Could Hear the Drums. So, just a word to the wise. Also the title of the song. Is it Then? Is it Than? Correct grammar would probably make me think it is Than. But over at his website, Ben has Then. So, is this just a simple typo? Or is there some deeper/different meaning to the song? I don't know. I'm no expert. Maybe it's just a Seattle thing.

Bad, Bad Idea

The guest on Wednesday's show was Neil Patrick Harris, but first I'll quickly run through some of the other stories.

Stephen talked about Venus passing in front of the sun. Hopefully, none of you looked directly at the sun. Bad, bad idea.

The biggest event in the universe happened in America's Dairyland, the Badger State of Wisconsin, with the recall vote on Tuesday. Some will say it was a waste of time, but we gained valuable information from Stephen that no one would have known otherwise. Namely, do not try to milk a badger. Bad, bad idea.

But the good news, according to Stephen, was the end of Unions. As he waited for the festive balloon drop, he came to realize that those people pointing the camera at him, and getting stuff done for him, basically, making the show work, are Union workers. So, no balloons, but they did drop something for him.

Sad story if you like associating with others of your species. Bald Knob seniors were shut out because Bingo was shut down. You know how it is with Bingo, it leads to other crimes, it's a menace, it's morally wrong, it involves knick-knack things and what-nots. So, the seniors can go back to sitting at home alone.

Stephen welcomed Neil Patrick Harris. "You clean up real good," he said. (In my family, that is a compliment meaning "You look marvelous!") The two men have a relationship, they are friend-ish, because they both performed in "Company" together. Stephen called Neil Patrick Harris a triple threat because he is an actor, singer, and dancer. (He forgot magician.) "Why do theater?" was one of the most important questions Stephen asked, followed by, "Do you think the Olympics should allow theater?"

Neil Patrick Harris will host the Tony Awards Live June 10 on CBS. If you are likely to forget the date and place, just watch this YouTube video to help you remember.

Something that always interests me is how much everything is related to everything else. For example, Jill Biden was on the show recently. She is also known as Dr. Biden. She teaches at a Community College. Senor Chang teaches at a Community College. Interestingly enough, Chang  used to be a doctor. Neil Patrick Harris also used to be a doctor. Very interesting.

That's all, except that every once in a while, Stephen will have a bit more to share with us when he signs off / says goodbye. Ray Bradbury died recently, so to honor him, Stephen burned his copy of Fahrenheit 451 in the set's fireplace.

How to "Win" an Election

First, choose your side.
Second, tell the other side to vote when it is too late.
Third, tell the other side the wrong place to send absentee ballots.
Fourth, claim it was all an honest mistake.

Stephen even made up a catchy poem to help the people in Wisconsin remember the wrong information that is being sent to voters in Democratic districts:

~ ~ ~ On August 11 make your selection
~ ~ ~ That's just two days after the actual election.

For the record, people in Wisconsin should vote on August 9, not on August 11.

I could write it all down, but here's the information everyone needs to know at Huffington Post.

Really, go read it at Huffington Post. You can find out information about such things as Voter Fraud, Americans for Prosperity, the Koch brothers, and typos.

Then watch the show at Colbert Nation if you did not see it tonight. He tells all about the snafu in Wisconsin. Plus you can see him model a certain article of clothing. You wouldn't want to miss that would you?

The Stupidest Thing Anyone Ever Did

Stephen Colbert got control of MLB twitter feed for 24 hours starting at midnight on August 5. Bad idea MLB. You should have known better. If you are interested, it's
twitter@mlb

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. What were they thinking?

Tonight's guest was Anthony Bourdain. He likes to cook and he likes to eat, but not just anything. It needs to be good food.

Bear Belly

Good thing Stephen wasn't in Hayward, Wisconsin on Thursday night. A bear, that's right, a bear, meandered into a grocery store and headed for the beer cooler. He seemed happy to just be in the cooler. DNR tranquilized him and got him out of there. Most likely he was underage because he did not drink any beer while he was there.

Stephen is not a fan of bears. They scare him. Surprising for someone who often talks about Papa Bear.

How did that bear know where the beer cooler was? Did anyone card him? Was he planning on stocking up for the long winter? Will Stephen even mention this on his program? Darn, probably not. I think he is on vacation for a week. What? Vacation? That means there is the possibility that he is in Wisconsin since that is a wonderful place to take a vacation, what with the lakes and the trees and the fishing and the wildlife and the things of that nature.

Noooooooooooo!
