Feast of Stephen

Stephen mentioned again how Christmasy his studio is complete with a historically accurate nativity. It does have Stephen's latest book, "America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't," lying in the manger which I have my doubts about, historically and Biblically speaking, but I'll take Stephen at his word.

Speaking of Number One books - "America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't," has now reached Number One status over at Amazon, so great job Nation for buying the book. You will treasure it as I do.

As far as I can tell, Governor Nikki Haley still has not named Stephen Colbert, or someone less qualified than him, to replace Jim DeMint as Senator from South Carolina. Senator John McCain would be somewhat of a mentor to Stephen if (and when) Stephen goes to Washington. Senator McCain has said he would teach Senator Colbert how to shut up, which is funny because he can't make anyone shut up. Is it coincidence that there is a picture of Sarah Palin onscreen while Stephen is saying that? Also willing to help Stephen was Senator Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico. He had great pointers for Stephen, including appropriate attire to wear and information about the Steam Room.

Mandy Patinkin who is the Chief Saul Berenson on Homeland, was Stephen's guest last night. It was another great interview and I'm not sure if it was funny or terrifying or confrontational or all three. One of the first matters to be discussed, of course, was beards and beard growing. It takes about 8-10 weeks for Mandy Patinkin to grow his beard and get it up to speed. Stephen had a suggestion for better beard growth. Mandy Patinkin took the time during the interview to write that down while Stephen waited, patiently it seemed, for him to finish and resume the interview. They then delved into just about everything - terrorism, patriotism, propaganda, personal responsibility, and things that are not magic tricks. I think they also solved the Mideast problems.

If you were paying attention to your TV schedules or the lineup from Colbert Nation, you were aware that Michael Stipe was also scheduled to be a guest. I was so excited. Finally, he would get to come off that shelf at The Colbert Report. WHAT??!!??!! He had to sit there, even while the three of them sang. Well, I guess if Michael Stipe is happy doing that, then who am I to question that decision?

So, anyway, Christmas Music. Michael Stipe, Mandy Patinkin and Stephen Colbert sang Good King Wenceslas with Joan playing the piano. It was wonderful as is to be expected. Three very different men with three very different vocal stylings and voices. If you want, you can go get that over at iTunes for a very affordable price. Just go to Colbert Nation for the link.

If you are not familiar with the song, here is how it starts and then how it ends. There's a whole bunch of stuff in the middle. You can find the lyrics on the Internets if you want or just buy the song at iTunes or else watch it online at Colbert Nation.

Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen,

.......... stuff in the middle .......

Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing.

So, it's truly a great Christmas song and has a message we can all embrace.

Hardware Stuff

(Note: I just updated We Mars'd It, so be sure to read the next post also.)

In his continuing Stephen Colbefrajilympic Expealacoverage '012, Stephen saluted the Olympic spirit and paid tribute to our patriotic team members. Stand proud, team members, stand proud.

And on to politics. We got to follow along in that reporter(s) followed along while Mitt Romney did some everyday, normal Joe, run of the mill shopping errands. He went to the Hardware store and bought hardware stuff. He went to the grocery store and bought, well probably grocery stuff. This of course naturally leads to a discussion of possible Vice President picks. The way to know who it will be is Wikipedia. Just see which candidate had the most updates on Wikipedia and that will be the VP pick. We know this is true because back when John McCain went all mavericky and picked Sarah Palin, her Wikipedia page had been updated about 68 times the previous day.

Can you guess what comes next? Of course. Stephen encouraged everyone to update the Wikipedia page of their favorite candidate for Mitt Romney's running mate. He demonstrated with the Wikipedia page of friend of the show Tim "T Paw" Pawlenty of Minnesota. The updates were quite interesting, however, I looked at the Wikipedia page for Tim Pawlenty and I did not see the changes. Either Wikipedia already scrubbed the updates that Stephen did, or Stephen did not press the correct Wiki Wiki button after he made the changes. But anyway, go update your favorite potential candidate, whether it be Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, Marc Rubio, Rob Portman, or Rafalca. I guess, in a way, members of the Colbert Nation just might be the ones to pick Mitt Romney's running mate. I can hardly wait!

Animal rights issues are important to almost everyone, but not to Congressman Steve King of Iowa. We got to hear examples of Congressman Steve King talking about what dogs should and should not do.

We also got to hear Congressman King talk about this possible scenario: A sexual predator impregnates a 13 year-old girl, picks her up at the playground of her middle school, hauls her across state line to have an abortion and brings her back to the swing set. According to him, that's not against the law in the United States of America.

Luckily, Stephen Colbert has people off stage who talk to him during the show. "What? What? I'm being told that all of that is against the law." Stephen then explained situations that illustrate his understanding of what Congressman Steve King said. Stephen has such a way with words.

Stephen's guest was Mark A. Shriver, who talked about his dad Sargent Shriver, and the book he wrote about his dad. "A Good Man, Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver" is the book. Sargent Shriver had quite the resume. Peace Corps, Head Start, Job Corp, VISTA, and Legal Services.

With Pete Seeger on Monday, and Sargent Shriver's son Mark on, it is starting to seem like Liberal Week over at the Colbert Report. But, since Stephen is a Conservative, that just shows that he is fair and willing to listen to both sides.

I Piaffed It

First of all, Stephen compared the question asked of Mitt Romney about whether or not London is ready to do the Olympics with that question that Hank Williams Jr used to ask us, "Are you ready for some football?" And of course references to Mitt Romney's staff asking for a kiss from the press.

But enough of world affairs and presidential elections, on to the really important stuff.

Dressage.

Oh, wait, back to some presidential stuff. There will be no announcement about Mitt Romney's choice for a Vice President running mate until after Rafalca competes. This can only mean one thing according to Stephen. Mitt Romney has chosen Rafalca as his running mate. It's an obvious choice as Stephen compares Rafalca with Sarah Palin. You may remember Sarah Palin from four years ago. She was John McCain's running mate. Anyway, Stephen reminded us that both Sarah Palin and Rafalca are female. Both do not read newspapers. And both have completed the same number of terms as governor. I don't know what more proof anyone would need to see what is so apparent to Stephen. Let's hope that Rafalca gets to ride inside Air Force One and not have to be strapped on top of the plane.

Dressage.

"Money is not something that defines dressage. It's something you can do with a normal budget." This is according to Jan Ebeling who will be riding Rafalca. Absolutely. You know that it is true because even the Romneys can afford it with their normal budget.

Dressage.

Not only is it affordable for nearly everyone, it is also very easy to do. Stephen proved that the sport can be mastered with only 20 minutes of instruction. He cracked a whip and said "That brings back some memories." He asked about the likelihood of the horse, Conchita, kicking his skull off his shoulders. "The likelihood ... is about zero," claimed Michael Barisone. Those odds were not reassuring to Stephen who then asked if he should be wearing a cup. Then the unexpected happened which caused Stephen to piaffe a little bit. Not to worry. Stephen and Conchita are both fine. After just a little bit more coaxing and training from Michael Barisone, Stephen, sitting proudly on Conchita, performed a perfect Piaffe. He won the coveted prize. Stephen was so pumped he performed his own version of a Piaffe without benefit of a horse, so to speak. The two men celebrated with champagne.

The only thing missing from all this horseplay, in my opinion, was that Michael Barisone should have gotten the gold for, how to say this politely, putting up with Stephen.

Last year was the StePhest Colbchella '011. This year will be the StePhest Colbchella '012 Rocktaugustfest and you can get all the details over at Colbert Nation. Block out August 10 on your calendar!

Jeff Koons was indeed the guest last night. Why does he do what he does? "I like art." Perhaps more important than his balloon dogs is his support for Studio in a School. Go look at the website if you didn't look at it yesterday. Can you ever imagine a teacher saying it is time for art and the students all groan and say ,"Do we have to have art now?" That won't happen! Yeah, art is important.

So, there you have it. Art, music and dressage all in one show. Great job Stephen.

Higgs Boson

"The Higgs boson has not been discovered yet, but its mass is 125 billion electron volts."

That's a joke that's making the round in physics circles. And as long as we're on humor, here's the Dilbert joke about the Higgs boson.

To show that he appreciates the subtle aspects of humor, Stephen continued with, "Speaking of not really being there, Mitt Romney." After weeks and weeks of all the political pundits saying Mitt would be the inevitable candidate for the Republicans, we had Super Tuesday and now everyone is saying it's still too close to call. This is very vexing to Stephen. The good news is that if it comes down to a draw and no one knows who to nominate and if they were to consider Sarah Palin, she "wouldn't close that door." One can only wonder what Palin as President would be like.

CNN is also vexed by the thought of an indecisive decision and so they had a virtual brokered convention. If you want to see how that went down, Jon Stewart had a segment on his show tonight about CNN and you can view his show online. (Of course, wait until tomorrow for that episode to be posted.) Stephen, on the other hand, conducted his own virtual convention, which did require a bit of imagination, but it was much better than CNN's convention. After Stephen's virtual convention was complete, the candidate was still, oh no, Mitt Romney!

Who is nine feet tall and has four arms? Willem Dafoe! But only when he' being Tars Tarkas. Willem Dafoe was the guest tonight and as usual, Stephen asked if he was an actor or a movie star. The way to know, according to Stephen, boils down to this: "Do you wait tables for a living?" Dafoe doesn't, therefore that makes him a movie star. The movie, of course, is John Carter.

Björk

Today was the Florida Primary. I hope everyone in Florida took the opportunity to vote. We got to find out who endorsed whom and who probably won. It's confusing but let me try to fill in all the blanks. Herman Cain endorsed Newt Gingrich but would be comfortable with Mitt Romney. Stephen endorsed Cain's endorsement of Newt. Duke Cunningham has endorsed Newt and has said, "I have 80% of inmates that would vote for you." And finally, Sarah Palin has endorsed Newt, at least, I'm pretty sure that's what she was talking about. But maybe not. Hard to tell. Just ignore what I wrote about Sarah Palin and wait until I find out for sure. She will probably speak again.

Founding Fathers - I didn't even know they were lost! Those were those guys who lived a long time ago and started this country with all that liberty and freedom stuff. Turns out lots of them owned slaves which would kind of be the opposite of liberty and freedom. We learned that some folks don't like that stuff in the history books. They don't like talking about it. For example, Stephen had a clip of a news team (I'm not sure who the guy and gal were) reporting this: "The Tennessee Tea Party is telling state politicians we need to tone down talk of slavery and stop making it about race."

You can read about changes to history books here. Or read about it here. Maybe they can just take the word "history" out of the title, that might work. Just call them books. They can get the Grimm brothers to write the books.

Björk - I don't typically give a fashion update on Stephen's guests, but I would be remiss if I did not say something about Björk. She was wearing blue and had very fluffy red hair with blue, green and purple highlights.

It was a short but interesting interview. Stephen accused her of combining science and music. She probably even threw in some math. Just go look at her website and have some fun. I am impressed, I will admit that. Very interesting animation. (Click and move mouse.)

She sang for us and of course the good news is that if you didn't watch tonight, you can watch on Colbert Nation tomorrow. But of course you already knew that didn't you?

Update: If you want to get the maximum enjoyment from her website, I recommend using a regular computer. On an iPad it is cute, but nowhere near the detail and experience as on a full screen device. Also, Björk is Icelandic. If you are looking for a wonderfully different vacation destination, look no further than Iceland which was my suggestion for Stephen Colbert's vacation for August 28, 2011.

And if you are wondering why this artist just uses her first name, here's one possible explanation.

Björk Guðmundsdóttir is her full name. Not that difficult to pronounce, (click on the speaker icon in the box with her name) but still probably a smart decision on her part.

Governor Tinkerbell

You probably know her as Governor Sarah Palin. Or, since she did not finish out her full term as Governor, perhaps it would be spelled Governo. As you may know she was running around the country while others were running for president. She had that big bus and kept showing up where other candidates had debates or announcements. But to make a long story not quite as long,

Governo Palin was recently on the radio with Mark Levin. Here's what he had to say:

"I've just received a statement from Governor Palin ... this is breaking news and she writes, 'After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. Thank you again for all your support. God bless America, Sarah Palin.' Governor Sarah Palin, how are you my friend?"

And Sarah Palin replies, "How are you , great one? I'm feeling just fine."

What a disappointment, especially for the people who replied to this letter by sending cash:

"Someone must save our nation from this road to European Socialism. Do you think it should be Governor Palin? If so, you can send your best one-time gift to SarahPAC today to ... show her that we support her if she decides to run."

Yes, disappointed, and yet, it never suggests that she would run. It never says the money would be used for getting out her message to the masses. It says a one-time gift, so it's kind of like she is having a birthday party and wants you to come and bring a present, but forget the part about going to a party and just send the presents.

Stephen apologized to Ham Rove and had a nice tribute to Steve Jobs. Any time that Stephen would beg for an iPhone or iPad, he would always get what he wanted. The guest tonight was Jason Amerine, Lieutenant Colonel, Special Forces. He was one of the first to go into Afghanistan 10 years ago.

It would be worth your time to go over to Colbert Nation and watch the show there to see the apology, the tribute and the interview.

More Cowbell

In shocking news (and I admit, I got this news from friend of the show, Jon Stewart) Sarah Palin is not, I repeat, not going to run for President. Did anyone see this coming? I mean, I know she was going to let us know by the end of September what her plans were and of course up in Alaska, the days sometimes get frozen and stick together. But, not running? She's been studying so much and has learned lots about people and places and things - you know, nouns and such.

Wow. Well anyway, her fellow Republican, Herman Cain, or as she likes to call him, Herb Cain, made a big mistake. He was on The View recently and said he believes homosexuality is a choice. Joy Behar challenged him on that and he clarified with, "You show me the science that says it's not (a choice) and I could be persuaded."

Well, Stephen caught him in that faux pas. A Republican acknowledging the existence of Science???? Big mistake.

And it did not go unnoticed. Read what the Log Cabin Republicans had to say about Herman Cain's comment.

Tonight's guest was actually tonight's guests. Black Star, or should I say, Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey, showed up to chat with Stephen and perform. They even brought classy warrior accessories for Stephen to wear, which he did and might I add, he looked marvelous! They performed world exclusive, "Fix Up." They also discussed with Stephen the difference between corporate rap and underground rap. Mostly they said there isn't a middleman. Stephen disagreed, claiming to be the actual middleman.

But anyway, Stephen promised The Colbert Bump for Black Star and I'm quite sure they got it.

Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round

Tonight's rerun was from August 11. So, we got to see the "Vote for Rick Parry" ad again! And we learned again about the shenanigans of WOI-DT.

Also, Stephen talked about Sarah Palin and her Bus Tour, or should I say, Family Vacation. That got me to thinking. What if Sarah had invited Stephen to tour along on the bus while he is on vacation? Think of the fun they could have! Discussing Politics. Talking about their favorite moments in American History. Singing American Folk Songs like Yankee Doodle.

Stephen could give her pointers about running for President. After all, he did run last time, or at least he gave it his best effort. And then as sort of a thank-you for all the advice, Palin could ask Stephen to be her running mate.

Well, if that does happen, remember, you heard it here first!

Vote for Rick Parry

That's Parry with an "A" for America and "A" for Iowa.

Of course, you can't vote in Iowa's straw poll if you aren't an Iowan or should that be Iowegian? But if you know someone who lives in Iowa, tell them to vote for Rick Parry. You can see Stephen's ads over at Colbert Nation. But where you won't see them is on WOI-DT, ABC5. They "decided" not to air the ads and this was their explanation. "Our general manager has reviewed both of the spots that your group wants to run tonight and tomorrow and we are gong to decline to air them. The are confusing to voters as we get closer to the straw poll on Saturday and the debate on Thursday. Please let me know if you have more questions."

Well.

WOI has upset the wrong people!

Stephen needs to stand up to this kind of treatment! He should go to the Iowa State Fair, purchase a kissing booth, and for $10.00, people can kiss his Emmy! He would rake in so much money for his ColbertPAC. (Once you visit Colbert Pac website, you won't want to leave!) And you know what? They need someone of Stephen's intelligence at the Iowa State Fair. Iowans think Kansas is in Iowa. It's true! Just look at the Iowa State Fair website and you will see for yourself.

On a happier note, Sarah Palin has rolled into Iowa with her bus tour because she wanted to go to the Iowa State Fair. Imagine her surprise when she realizes that all kinds of Republicans are there already. Most likely there will be some sort of get-together so that they can all socialize over drinks while talking issues. It's nice when we get a Happy Coincidence. Just think, if she had gone a week earlier or a week later, she would not have been in Iowa when all the GOP presidential hopefuls are there.

Gloria Steinem was Stephen's guest tonight. Sarah Palin most likely watched tonight's show because she is so grateful that people like Gloria Steinem paved the way for her to be taken seriously when she ran for office. Gloria Steinem has a premiere on HBO Monday night.

Congress Shall Make No Law

It's Monday and lots of people are talking about what they did this past weekend. Apparently lots of people went to the movies. We can't possibly see all the movies that are out there in the movie theaters, so it was helpful when Stephen compared two movies from this past weekend. One movie was "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part Two" and the other was "The Undefeated" which is about Sarah Palin. He thought they were quite similar, and, in fact, they did have something in common with each other - numbers. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" made about $169,189,427 (a number) and "The Undefeated" got a perfect score of 0% (another number) from Rotten Tomatoes.

When Stephen does finally go to see the movie "The Undefeated" he's going to dress up as a Gotcha Question!

Would you like to be on The Colbert Report? You can. It is very easy. Just donate money to his Colbert Superpac, and you will see your name crawling across the bottom of the screen in what Stephen calls a Cash Crawl.

You are probably wondering about the title. Congress makes laws all the time. That's why all those guys and gals are elected. Well there's other reasons why they are elected, but it's usually so that they can make laws.

But Stephen had Sean Parnell of the Center for ....
(my free speech kicks in here wherein I don't speak about the rest of the name of the Center)... kind of stumped with the whole First Amendment. Mr. Parnell could only remember the first five words. But I have no problem with that because Sean (may I call you Sean) is all about free speech and so that should by definition involve saying as much or as little about the First Amendment as he wants to. If some people are confused, so be it. That's free speech, isn't it?

Although I can see how some people could possible be confused. For example, the following sentence could cause problems for Momma if you only say the first five words.

Throw Momma from the train a kiss.

Also interveiwed was Sheila Krumholz of the Center for Responsive Politics (Open Secrets.org). They talked about a lot of things, including puppies.

And finally, all fans of liberty and freedom, including free speech of course, were most likely glued to their TV sets when Stephen has as his guest tonight, John Prendergast, co-founder of Enough Project.

Some more numbers:

8,775 people like Enough Project.

32,124 people like Open Secrets.org

347 people like Center for Competitive Politics.

Gotcha Question

Sarah Palin is always getting those "Gotcha Questions" thrown at her. This is the latest Gotcha Question:

"What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?"

That's your basic old, "So, how's it going?" question. You can pretty much answer it any way you want and not put your foot in your mouth. She answered with her famous Paul Revere answer.

"He who warned uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that uh, we were going to be secure and we were gonna be free."

On last night's Report, Tom Ridge was the guest. Stephen introduced him and mentioned that in addition to being Homeland Security Adviser under George W. Bush, Ridge is a lobbyist. Apparently Stephen was misinformed. Ridge told Stephen that he's not a lobbyist.

That's right. Here's what it says in the Wikipedia entry about Tom Ridge:

"In July 2010, companies seeking to use hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas from the Marcellus Shale Formation engaged Ridge and his company at $75,000 a month to help them gain support."

And over at Washington Post, there is this definition of a lobbyist: "A person who tries to influence legislation on behalf of a special interest."

So, completely different. Glad that's all cleared up. Next they went on to discuss hydraulic fracturing. Stephen mentioned that thanks to Vice President Cheney's Energy Task Force, gas companies did not have to reveal what chemicals were being pumped into the ground.

Then Stephen had a question that he was wondering about. "Some are things like kerosene, benzene, urea, toluene. How many of those can I feed my toddler? Cuz it's perfectly safe, right? Right?"

Now that's a Gotcha Question.

Random String of Words

There's lots of people in the news lately. I won't mention all of them. But let me just say that tonight Stephen announced he has made the moral choice to let himself go. For someone who just spent about a week on a small boat in the ocean, that is indeed a brave choice.

But perhaps the most important event in the news now is Sarah Palin's historical perspective on Paul Revere's ride. If you watch TV or look at the internet, you most likely have seen her interpretation on that important night in our history. And if you are paying attention you will know that many people have said she mangled history. Of course someone is defending her and that someone is, well, it's Sarah Palin defending herself. She knows her history she tells us.

I think the problem is that poem. That one by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, you know, "Paul Revere's Ride". It's so long. Stephen had a better idea based on what Sarah Palin had said:

One if by land
Bells if by two
Hey British you're warned
Sail the Ocean Blue.

It seems that Stephen is in her corner also because he admires her skill at speaking on camera. "I could not have said a random string of words better," Stephen said after hearing her review of Revere. But still there are those who are upset by her inaccuracies. That could change though because her fans apparently have gone to the Wikipedia page about Paul Revere in order to change it to reflect what Sarah Palin had said.

So now everyone is confused. What did Paul Revere do that night back in 1775? Did he warn the Americans? Did he warn the British? Was he able to load and shoot and ring all at the same time? There's only one way to know for sure. Historical Re-enactment.

Stephen demonstrated clearly just how the ride of Paul Revere went down. Umm, I'm not sure that he had it right either. But at least he had the guts to try. That makes him a great American hero also.

One last thing from tonight's show - Stephen discussed the replacement for the Food Pyramid. Now it will be the Food Plate. That makes sense to me. You can read about it at ChooseMyPlate.gov.

Driving Miss Crazy

It seems as if everyone is reporting on Sarah Palin's "just your typical American vacation" this week. You know, just like the vacations you went on when you were a kid. You get yourself a nice coach bus. Paint it all patriotic and such. Sign your name across it. Travel around to various destinations and have your picture taken gawking at historical monuments. Yeah, we've all been there.

Even Jon Stewart over at The Daily Show talked about Joan of Alaska. He said reporters were following her around and asking questions such as, "Why are we following your bus?" and "What's wrong with us?" (And now you know why this post is called "Driving Miss Crazy!" Thanks, Jon.) He reported that she says it's not about her and it's not a publicity seeking tour. Duh. He goes on to ask us, "Have you seen her bus? Could it be any more about her than that?"

But last night, Stephen also reported on the One Nation bus. And yes he talked about the Lame Stream Media. And he lamented on the fact that Sarah Palin was ambushed with gotcha questions such as, "Where are you going?" and "Why are you doing this?"

Perhaps we can get a clue about this bus trip from what was posted at SarahPac. "Even Piper was able to grasp the significance of being in the presence of our first President - who had such diverse interests - when she told me later 'how hard he must have worked to keep that farm going!' "

To be fair, George Washington probably did not do all the work or even any of the labor-intensive farm work himself. Most likely he used what Stephen called "African volunteers." I wonder if Sarah Palin shared that bit of information with Piper. (Yikes! Who's holding her baby boy? Anyone? Anyone?)

Which lead naturally into the next topic, Colbert SuperPAC. Stephen is still working on that. In fact he had an actual letter from the FEC with 13 legal questions to be answered. So he did what he always did in high school, paid a rich kid to give him the answers. Last night that person was none other than friend of the show and Stephen's lawyer, Trevor Potter. Stephen expressed his admiration for the hard work done by the people over at the FEC and his hope that they will be paid adequately for the job they do. If Stephen does get his ColbertPAC, he will be able to take his kids on a "for profit" vacation.

Of course you all remember Stephen was sailing this past week. If you go to Colbert Nation, you can watch the show from May 31 and see just what a sailor looks like. Argh.

Stephen's guest last night was James Stewart. That's the truth. It was actually interesting and says a lot about the direction this nation is heading.

*Photo not actually of George Washington's farm.

Colbert Trumps Trump

I'm not much of a card player, so I hope I'm using that verb correctly. As some of you may recall, back on October 9, 2009, I had a post about Conservapedia entitled Special Message from Conservapedia where I suggested that Conservapedia had given Stephen Colbert the famous Colbert Bump. I also mentioned that Pat Robertson had 9,180 hits on his page while Stephen Colbert had 95,815 hits on his page.

Today I decided to see how those numbers have changed. Pat Robertson has increased his numbers to 13,443 while Stephen is now at 176,176! Wow, I think Conservapedia really did give Stephen the Colbert Bump.

Then I decided to check out a few other people. First I searched for Newt, but all I got was this short article:

"Newt are amphibians with four legs, and a tail. They are outwardly similar to lizards, despite being members of a different class of the animal kingdom - like lizards, they can regenerate limbs, but unlike lizards, they have soft slimy skin instead of scales."

Well that seemed strange, so then I searched for Newt Gingrich and then I found the guy who is going to run for the GOP nomination for president. If you don't remember him, he's the guy who loves his wife so much that he's had three of them so far. Anyway, his page has been accessed 15,531 times.

Then I looked for Tim Pawlenty, the old T Paw, and found that his page has been accessed 4,380 times. For Sarah Palin, (wow, they had almost a book on her page) there were 1,005,585 hits for that page. For Michele Bachmann, the number stands at 69,171. And for The Donald (Donald Trump, not Donald Pellview) the grand total is 5,711 times.

A few more names and numbers: Ron Paul is at 42,590. OMG, Barack Obama is so popular on Conservapedia that 2,204,356 people have looked at his page. I guess conservatives must like Obama as much as liberals do. Interesting. Mitt Romney is at 32,200 times that his page has been accessed. Mike Huckabee has 31,561 for his number.

I don't know that any of those number mean anything especially important, it's just interesting on a rainy day to do a little Conservative reading. If you want to get your own Colbert Bump, you can read about Stephen Colbert on Conservapedia here.

I Joined Colbert PAC

Stephen was so convincing that I just had to go to COLBERTPAC.com and join.

Now I can claim to be one of a group of millions who are
"Making a better tomorrow, tomorrow."

My whole life has changed since joining. I feel older. I know I'm getting smarter. Every time I see Michele Bachmann or Tim Pawlenty or Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee, I can smile because I know that I am in the PAC that is better than all those PACs put together.

But enough about me. On to the important stuff. Stephen found out last night that you can use PAC money to pay for jet travel. And that you need to comply with rules and fill out forms and things of that nature, but no one has gone to jail for making boo boos about PAC stuff. So, that sounds intriguing.

I mentioned other people who have PACs and I did not know, but huckpac means "out after Iowa" in the Klingon language. Stephen talked about Tim Pawlenty and his thunderous handshake last night. Well, you can do amazing things with audio-visual equipment nowadays. oops. I guess it's called technology now, not AV. You might remember that Stephen has aired the Pawlenty PAC ad and then determined that Pawlenty is running for the Brawny man. You probably haven't seen, but Pawlenty, who is from Minnesota, has all of a sudden developed a deep south accent when he is speaking in states south of Minnesota.

But moving on. I just think someone needs to talk about this Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert BFF situation. (That's Best Friends Forever, if you don't know.) Both of them have talked about being BFFs for 6 months. That's not exactly forever!!!

Regardless of that problem though, go to DonorsChoose.org/Fallon-Colbert-Project anyway and donate. It helps kids, so that's good.

And then hopefully soon we can get past both of them having to say, "I never said that."

Teabaggers, Fleabaggers and Carpetbaggers * *

So, yes I watched The Colbert Report last night and it was superb as usual, but I have no commentary other than to say that modern day stretch fabrics are often used in the manufacture of clothing.

Moving on.

I caught just a few minutes of The View this morning. (Interesting isn't it that the good shows always start with "The" in their title?) Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough were the guests when I was viewing The View. (You can see a clip of Stephen Colbert here when he was on The View). In the few minutes that I watched they were talking about the Political Stalemate situation in Madison, Wisconsin. When a comment was made, I think by Joy Behar, that the purpose was to bust the Unions and in doing so, diminish the Democratic vote, Elisabeth Hasselbeck compared the Wisconsin Democrats to Fleabaggers.

Fleabaggers? Um, did she mean Carpetbaggers? Even so, I'm pretty sure she would have the comparison quite jumbled. Maybe she meant Teabaggers, but that doesn't make sense either. Maybe she thinks they are staying at Fleabag Resorts and Motels while they are away from Madison. Whatever. I don't think she is a history buff. When I look at the Wikipedia entry for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, I find that she was born Elisabeth DelPadre Filarski and her credentials for being one of the co-hosts on The View include being a contestant on Survivor: The Australian Outback in 2001, graduating with a degree in Fine Arts and working for Puma shoes. So, yeah, she's probably not much of a history buff.

Also in the Wikipedia entry I find this interesting tidbit:

"She has stated that the term 'conservative' does not define her as a person. On October 26, 2008, Hasselbeck appeared at Republican rallies in Florida, introducing Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin."

Not a conservative? Introducing Sarah Palin? Oxymoron?

Anyway, maybe it's time for Stephen to invite Elisabeth Hasselbeck to go from The View to The Colbert Report so that they can together solve this gridlock in Madison, Wisconsin.

On Wisconsin!

* * Note: Image of Bucky Badger just after the title of this post in no way indicates that Bucky Badger is to be considered a Teabagger, Fleabagger or Carpetbagger. Bucky Badger is a beloved icon and mascot and worthy of as much admiration and respect as we give to Stephen Colbert.

Nuclear Arsenal

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen clarified his position about Sarah Palin.

"For the record, I believe Sarah Palin is a true statesman whose experience as a failed vice president candidate, half-term governor and eight-episode reality show star has fully prepared her to take control of our nuclear arsenal."

See photo of Sarah Palin in the Oval Office here.

It is gracious of him to clear up this matter. But then it begs the question: If she is qualified for what I'm assuming he means the job of POTUS, then shouldn't Colbert be dusting off his resume? He is way more qualified than Sarah Palin to run for President of the United States.

As Stephen constantly reminds us, his own humility is what he is most proud of. That alone would be reason enough for me to vote for him. I do hope he runs again in 2012. (Political junkies will remember that Stephen Colbert briefly considered running in 2008.) Eight episodes can't even begin to compare with the years and years that The Colbert Report has been on the airwaves.

Gabrielle Giffords

Representative Gabrielle Giffords has been shot. Read about it here.

Sarah Palin had targeted Gabrielle Giffords last election - with crosshairs on a map of the USA. Now, she and Todd Palin and their family are praying for the victims. She is also praying for peace and justice.

It's Satire

Stephen talked about the Tea Party Nation Convention and Sarah Palin on last night's show. He clarified for all of us that the original Boston Tea Party also turned a profit. Sarah Palin could possibly run for president in 2012 and Stephen showed one possible bumper sticker that speaks to the "Hope-y Change-y" stuff that Obama campaigned on in 2008.

Sara Palin 2012
Abandon All Hope
that anything will ever change

Many people have been poking fun at Sarah Palin (or noting her hypocrisy) for using what Stephen calls a Hand-o-prompter. But hey, we all have done that at some time in our life. The only thing to really fault her on is her comment about a charismatic guy with a teleprompter. Is not Stephen Colbert a charismatic guy with a teleprompter? Whoa, treading on thin ice there Sarah.

But the most enlightening comments in that segment were about satire. He explained the intricacies of satire and also provided examples, using Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Rahm Emanuel. It all may have been confusing before, but after Stephen explained it, to the delight of his audience, it makes perfect sense.

It's satire.
